Hearing Aid Technology: It's Come A Long
Way
Noise pollution is the worst it’s ever been and more and more people are losing their hearing way too early.
Studies have found that people working in noisy conditions often start losing their hearing in their third decade
of life.
Thankfully, if you are having such issues you can turn to the newest in hearing aid technology. While your
hearing will never be what it was (even with this new hearing aid technology), you can go about living your life in
comfort. The newest hearing aid technology is light years beyond what it used to be.
Details About Hearing Aids
Hearing aid technology has made great leaps over the years. The first Hearing aid technology that Harvey
Fletcher made at Bells Labs is a lot different than what we have today. During Fletcher’s time, hearing aids were
actually worn and were about the size as a deck of cards. This hearing aid technology was bulky and featured an ear
mold and a cord going to an amplifier pack. You had to put the ear mold on your ear and you had a cable running
from it to the amplifier on your belt or put in your pocket.
While most people that are alive these days have no memory of such hearing aid technology, we still don’t want
to be seen with a hearing aid. Thankfully, hearing aids have become a lot easier to live with these days. The
old-school hearing aid that Harvey Fletcher created is usually only found in very poor regions. In fact, these
units aren’t even made anymore. Now we have BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aids that go unnoticed by most people and
allow you to not draw attention to your hearing aid when in public, if that is a concern for you.
Not only are they better looking, BTE hearing aids are also more effective than those old units. Studies have
shown that BTE units are even effective for people with severe hearing loss. Hearing aid technology keeps improving
as well. These days, many BTE units use thin tubes that go into your ear to amplify sound and channel it directly
into your ear canal.
These tubes are imperceptibly thin and nearly invisible. If you are concerned about appearance this kind of
hearing aid is ideal. BTE units are also available in many different styles and color variations so that you can
get the one that most fits your personal style and needs.
